Pity Party

So, I decided to turn that frown upside down and go for a run at the track yesterday morning. It was the strangest thing. We've been having pea-soup fog hear in the Northeast. Visibility was down to 1/8th of a mile or less in some towns. So when I turned the corner to the track, you could only see one half. EERY! But it was great running weather. There was even a little mist. I set up my Garmin and I was off for MY BEST RUN EVER!
The Garmin was actually "dead-on balls accurate" with the distance!

I might be able to hit that sub-30 5k come June, you think? Wish I took a picture of my forearms- the mist landed on each individual hair and they were all standing on end. Hey, it's the little things...

In other news, my brother had his hip replacement surgery today and so far, everything is good. He'll be moved to a room when he can feel his toes. I guess he had a really good epidural.

  1. Track may not be scenic but I pace great there to! Fantastic job - sounds to me that the sub 30 is in the bag!
Best of luck to your brother!

  5. congrats on a great run!!

regarding fueling during runs (as per your comment today) there is really so much to it but it is simple at the same time :) My general rule of thumb is
short run/cooler temps -nothing or water only
long runs- hydration (water or a sports drink/electrolytes) and some calories (bar, gel, gummies)
high intensity run-water, hydration and calories
    hot/warm weather- electrolytes!!

What works for one person may be different for another so try things out and see how your body reacts. I can't use Hammer gels because they upset my stomach and I'll get all bloated and stuff but my body does well with GU, Pacific Health Labs, First Endurance and PowerBar gels...

You might also find that as you increase distance and intensity, your tummy may get a little upset with you but that usually passes once your body gets used to it.

    Sub 30 is YOURS!!!!

    1. Jen, you talkin' runner's trots? Been there, done that! Thank God I have never looked like that poor guy in that picture that's been floating around on the internet! But I have JUST made it to the bathroom! I probably would prefer Power Bar because I have had several of their products and because they're readily available in regular stores! Thanks for the info!

  6. Oh yes! You are definitely going to rock that 5k in under 30 mins!

And I wish we got fog like that here in FL, well I'm sure some parts of FL gets fog, but not Orlando.
